The booklet was one of the first efforts to research the people of Norka and has been an excellent source of information to many people. The booklet was revised in 1986 and is available from AHSGR. Harvey was inducted into the Amateur Softball Association Hall of Fame in 1981 and the ISF Hall of Fame in November 2002. Read the article about Harvey Sterkel in the Autumn 2003 Norka Newsletter. Johannes Schleuning - My ancestor Caspar Schleuning was one of the first colonists in Norka (arrived 1768). My great-great-grandfather founded the daughter colony Neu-Norka further to the south. My grandfather Johannes was a Lutheran minister and served as a pastor to the German community in Tiblissi, Georgia. During world-war I he was banned to Siberia because of Russian fear from ethnic German political activity (were this picture was taken). 1917 he moved to Germany and became a spiritual leader and public voice for the Russian-Germans in Germany. Maybe this picture is interesting for your web-site. According to the Mormon Genealogy web-site the Schleunings must come from Ulrichstein in Oberhessen, Germany. However so far I was unable to identify the direct ancestors of Caspar Schleuning. Submitted by Prof. Dr. med.
